My New Year's Motto: Sexy AND Psyched!

I hope everyone is enjoying the energy and momentum of the New Year. I have found that I am bursting with energy, motivation, and excitement about moving ahead in my business and my life.

There's a little motto I came up with this past week to crystallize what I am shooting for this year. I have decided that this year is all about Sexy and Psyched.

It started as a way for me to focus my views on dating this year: having spent a lot of time in the past with men who are sexy, but surly, sad or sour, I decided I wanted get clear about what I was looking for this year. I have dated a lot of wonderful men as well and I realized that what was so great about them was that they embodied both sexiness and passion for me and for life- basically, they were pretty psyched.

I love being around people who are pursuing their passion. I love the energy of hearing about someone's day when it has been a joyful and exciting experience. I also love dating someone who finds me exciting and attractive when I feel the same way about them.

Yay!

But then, as I was thinking about this motto, I realized that it was about more than my dating situation. It's also about my work, my free time, my health, and following my bliss.

I want to focus on living this year from a place of pursuing those things that make me feel sexy, powerful, feminine, and open to all the abundance of life as well as everything that fires me up and makes me excited.

Two movies to ring in the New Year with....

This holiday season, there has been no shortage of films to see. After the long dry desert of the past months, I have been delighted to return to the pleasant panic of worrying I won't get to them all.

In looking ahead to this wide open 2009, though, I think there are two that are essential viewing for anyone looking to make a leap forward into a more passionate and powerful life story.

I saw Slumdog Millionaire twice: once with a friend in LA, and again with my mother and brother over Christmas. It is one that I think will lose impact if not seen in the theater: part of the beauty of this film is its ability to completely suck you into the world it has created. First, and especially, the world that the main characters grew up in with all its chaos and overwhelm to the senses. Later the world evolves in ways they can't anticipate, but with the vibrant soundtrack you are carried along with it. A fantastic rags to riches story that will inspire you to follow your dream no matter what it takes.

My other pick for the New Year's inspiration weekend is Yes Man.  I know- there are profound movies out there to see right now: Milk, Benjamin Button... So why Yes Man?

Because I think it's a message that people need to think about and embrace in their lives. We have been so assaulted with messages about how things aren't going to be ok with the economy and how it's going to be a hard life for a while now, and I simply don't beleive that is all there is to the story.

Of course we need to be realistic and we need to look at how our country has been operating and how some high level businesses have been less than ethical. But most of us did not get us into this mess. The best thing many of us can do right now is to embrace optimism and possibility.

Watching the shift for the character, based on the memoir by Danny Wallace, shift from a sad guy who just can't get over his divorce to one who is full of life and able to choose to follow his passion is a treat and a big change from what we've been seeing on the news and in the papers. Don't miss the chance to look for joy in life, even and especially when things are tough. You'll be an inspiration to many.

Take some time and write down what your dreams and hopes for this year are. Make some plans. Make them bigger than you think possible. And then ask yourself every day, "What can I do to move this forward? What's next?"

Because if these two characters can trust their guts as they did and jump forward into greatness and a better life, I am certain that we each can, too.
