I suspect Britain's got talent is going to have quite a few viewers jumping the pond this season. Look what happened when one woman had the courage to share the talent she believed in her heart she had. In one day, she jumped to 800,000 fans on the facebook fan page someone created for her. Amazing. There has never been more opportunity to get your creative beauty out on the world than there is now. Don't hide it...let it make our day just like Susan did. Susan, we thank you for your courage getting up in front of the world. We are all better for it.

This week's interview is with the delightful Edan Lepucki, novelist and writing teacher extraordinaire. She talks about how she got started as a writer, giving up a fantasy of being a pop idol in a leotard, and how those of you who are dying to write can make that happen.

I am so excited to have her interview here since you will have to chance to speak to her yourselves on the teleseminar call next week! Edan will be on the call with me at noon pacific on Tuesday April 14th. We'll talk about the writing process and have a chance to do q+a with a real live writer.

She makes her living 100% from writing and I have seen her in person- she is not starving to death and she and her husband live in a lovely apartment. You can do it, too!

Artist of the week: Charlie Kratzer, the sharpie king!

 
Sometimes limited circumstances can be what opens up your creativity. This was apparently out a while ago, but I am so inspired by this man who created a whole world in sharpie on his basement walls. Sometimes we are so used to spending lots of money on things when something simpler creates a more beautiful and personal result.

I certainly feel that way about my brussels sprouts, broccoli, and pepper plants that are growing like mad outside my front door. I am also loving reused glass food jars from peanut butter, pasta sauce and bean dip as storage containers. I love bulk items in glass jars, I must say.

What could you try this week that allowed limits or economizing to create something new and beautiful?

Artist of the Week: Francesca Woodman

For this week's artist, I picked another photographer: Francesca Woodman. I rediscovered her work at the Tate in January when I was in London. While many have taken on this style of work now, Woodman was an early photographer to tackle the introspective self-portrait and we can see the imprint of her style on many people's work still today...

Peach Tree Pottery: Check out a great spot for an artist's date!

Hello all, why not try something new and creative to get your juices flowing. I have been loving the audio-visual element of putting video up on the site lately. I am delighted to say that my friend Linda Mechanic's studio Peach Tree Pottery was featured on the show First Look LA. Enjoy the documenatry about the studio and then check out the fun tv segment here and see if you aren't inspired to try making something new to get your creative juices jump-started. Linda is an amazing teacher, and she has also been kind enough to show my artwork in her gallery space.

Recording Real Life: Nan Goldin, Artist of the Week.

My friend, Erin, gave me the beautiful book Ballad of Sexual Dependency by Nan Goldin for my birthday recently and as I was digging around looking for artist profiles for the site, I found this one. It is a beautiful video piece of Nan Goldin talking about her work. While it is seven minutes long, I cannot urge you enough to watch it all the way through. Settle in, get the tea, and enjoy. She really shows what it means to make art part of your life and how it can transform your experience of living. Watching this made me want to grab the camera and go shoot right away. There appears to be a part 2, which I will do my best to find and post so you are able to see the whole thing. Enjoy!
