"fair play to those who dare to dream"

for those of you who weren't glued to the academy awards last night, don't miss the chance to see the beautiful acceptance speeches from the music award, when the song from "once" won. this was one of the inspiring moments of the night. glen hansard's message in both the movie and his acceptance speech about making art and persevering is so amazing. marketa iglova was originally cut off by the move-it-along fascists and then was asked to come back out by john stewart and delivered a speech every bit as moving.

irglova's thanks and thoughts on independent musicians and hansard's exclamation "make art, make art!" are the best motivational speeches on sticking with your dreams that i have heard in quite a while. try out one of your dreams this week. happy monday.

the 100% fun networking solution

i wish to announce a new plan: after moping about feeling that i was not able to get excited about new networking opportunities, a conversation with a mentor this morning spurred me on. i have gotten the best client leads in groups or activities that i was excited about doing and that were creative. from now on, i will do things that are fun and network while doing them. this way, i'll meet creative types and have fun while doing it- so i'll be happy and easier to connect with.

how can you take the least enjoyable part of your work and make it something you look forward to? what can you make 100% fun for your remabulous life. send me stories...

re-entry

IMG_0566

as you all know, i have recently returned from a two week adventure in europe. it was amazing to get the opportunity to submerge myself in a different culture and enjoy the patterns of everyday life in a different country. now, i'm home and trying to figure out how to integrate the lessons i learned abroad into my somewhat crazy life at home.

something to make you feel warm and fuzzy today...

even if you're not in a relationship...

oh my god, the jet lag.

hello, lovelies! i am back from my adventure in england, now know how to make a proper cup of tea (if circumstances conspire properly), have an irrational love of food roasted in goose fat, and possess over 30 new pairs of knickers. Along with this bounty comes a walloping case of jet lag ( i have now been awake since 4am except for a nap at 6pm which was, let's face it, ill advised). i shall begin to report on the chronicles tomorrow, as some serious sorting of the 800ish photos i took while away needs to happen before i can do it justice.

hope all are well!

how to be happy

this seems to be a question that most of us consider frequently, whether we are wondering why we get to be so happy (when we are), or why it is that happiness is so elusive (when we aren't).

martin selgiman's book, authentic happiness, does what few have been able to nail down before: it provides a kind of formula for happiness. the formula as he puts it is: find your strengths and use them often. seems simple enough. seligman has also developed a new coaching process for authentic happiness.

brian johnson, philosopher-at-large and founder of zaadz, wrote this summary about his experience in the very first authentic happiness training. interesting stuff... enjoy! and i hope this will bring more ways to be happy into your life.

i plan to jump on just that question as soon as i am back from europe in a few days. i am sure that i will be very eager to start writing posts live again. i'll speak with you about my trip on the 12th- please excuse any weirdness the jet lag may have induced!

are you happy at work?

Life is too short to be unhappy in business. If business were not a part of the joy of living, we might almost say that we have no right to live, because it is a pretty poor man who cannot get into the line for which he is fitted.
George L. Brown

Thanks again, zaadz!
