i don't know how many of you know cary tennis's column in salon, or are salon readers in general, but it is worth following. the one up today seemed to speak to my situation a bit yesterday, and the hopeless artist in general. tennis is a good kick in the ass periodically and he is usually, particularly in this case, rather funny. all artists can sub their specific discipline for "writer" in the article and still get something out of it, i think.
here is a link. non-premium members will have to watch about 5 secs of an ad to get a site pass to read for free. if it doesn't take you directly, find it under the "life" tab at the top under the title, "i wrote a good book and see nothing but the flaws." it's a winner.
so- no head in the oven for the artist yet. we must persevere in our insanity. thanks to responses from people yesterday and reminders of the tao of pooh and general optimism.
enjoy.

i'm going to have to come right out and say it: i'm hitting a bit of a wall. i think this is a wall that most creative people face at some point, so i felt the need to share it: feeling useless. it has been a long time since i have been on a path anyone could call conventional, and i am having some doubt about whether that continues to be a good thing. i assumed others struggling to make a creative life have felt the same way, so it seemed a good idea to address the topic.
remabulous has a new sibling! as i have been ranting on and on about reading and books and up on my soapbox for ages about the need for literature in this age and on and on, i decided it was time to have a forum exclusively devoted to the topic. i started remabulous as a forum for art and living a life that had more art in it. i want to keep this the focus of this site, with interviews with artists and creative folk, and while literature and books are certainly part of a creative life, recently i have been wanting to give it the breathing room i feel it deserves.
so, with that in mind i give you literature life. on this site, i plan to review books, cover the reading challenge as i feel the added room with give more space and permission for reviews of what people have read etc. (although i will post updates on progress here as well), i also plan to try to get a hold of authors i love for interviews, cover book-related events, and also review all things book-related- from book lovers destinations, favorite bookstores, movie adaptation reviews, and feature and review book-related blogs and podcasts.
i am very excited about having a more topic-focused forum and look forward to continuing to expand both sites. any feedback about what people would want from a book-focused site would be excellent and much appreciated.
thank you in advance for your support in this new adventure i have cooked up!
yes, i'm still reading. but i took time to try some other things this week, too. and although the book i am reading is a little scary like this lady's appears to be, i am not yet daunted. (image: rene magritte)

i am always scared to write about big sur, because i really don't want to share it. it's that good. i have been going for a number of years and have never once been during the busy season of summer. i have confined my visits to september through april and wouldn't change a thing. this time, i got to live the high life by staying with my parents and brother at the post ranch inn. check out the view:

megan's challenge books 2007
after consulting with megan and jacob, i have some additional notes on the challenge. they have a slightly different angle, which i think might work for a lot of people. the challenge for them is about having hauled unread books from apartment to apartment and wanting to get through them. they have a nice put up or shut up thought: any books on the challenge list unread by the end of the year need to be sold or donated. may i also suggest using bookcrossing, the site of the month?
so, to recap the mover's delight challenge read on:
