Literary Surprises
It was 6 in the morning and I was in an airport in Phoenix, flying back from Chicago and Blogher 2007 just in time to make it into work at 9 am in California, when I saw it. I was bleary eyed from lack of sleep, my eyes were red, I was exhausted from waking up at 3 am to get to the airport, and I had been trying to stay awake to catch my next flight by perusing the airport stores. I was in the bookstore, where there's always a lot to look at, when I had a sudden surge of pure energy upon seeing one simple book on the bookshelf.
And, no it wasn't Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Although, that book is amazing in it's own right.
The book was The Gatecrasher by Madeline Wickham ALSO KNOWN AS Sophie Kinsella, who most notably wrote The Shopaholic Series. I love The Shopaholic Series - the books very simply make me laugh and are just a fun literary ride.
I had to look at the book twice to make sure that what I was seeing was real. Sophie Kinsella is Madeline Wickham, or more rightly, Madeline Wickham is Sophie Kinsella, since Sophie Kinsella is actually Madeline's pseudonym. A surge of adrenaline coursed through my veins at the realization that one of the authors I loved had a whole other series of books published under her real name! I had more books to read! How exciting! I had to get my hands on some Madeline Wickham books now! After a brief tour of her books on Amazon, made as soon as I could get to a computer, it appears that Madeline Wickham books are in a slightly different vein than the books by Sophie Kinsella, but I enjoy her writing, so getting my hands on some more new-to-me stories is still quite thrilling! I can't wait!
There's definitely something exhilarating about pseudonyms and finding out an author has a whole other slew of books written under one. It's like finding out a secret - a really, really good secret. It's like there's a whole other world out there I didn't know about and I just can't wait to get reading to find out all about it!
So, now my other favorite authors need to start spilling their pseudonym secrets. Ah, what a wonderful world that would be - double the GREAT books. I think that would be heaven...
